Again, hospice is not a place, but rather a term to describe the type of care that is received by such patients. There are hospice facilities, hospice care wards within a nursing home or or hospital; and hospice care staff who provide hospice care in a patient's home or other location.

Hospices usually give medical care to those patients, to whom there left no more way for treatment to remove the cause of the disease. This medical care is called- palliative treatment. Symptomatic treatments are given to them. For example: to a patient of terminal stage of bone cancer, they give pain killers.

Well in hospices apart from medi-care, they provide shelter, food etc.

Now-a-days hospices could also mean...to take care of certain group ill patients (foe example: hospice for the autistic children)

Hospice services are not just for those who are close to death, although society associates death closely with hospice care. The types of services you can expect include respite care, spiritual support and guidance, in-patient or out-patient care, assistance with daily living (such as meal preparation, bathing, and shaving), respite care for the primary family caregiver, and bereavement support for the family after the passing of the loved one. Most people make the mistake of waiting until the last weeks of a loved one's life to get hospice care when they should begin hospice care much sooner, because there is still the emotional aspect of the loved one that needs attention too. A hospice caregiver provided emotional and spiritual (if desired) companionship for the terminally ill and/or elderly.

Hospice programs provide palliative (care that relieves discomfort but does not improve the patient's condition or cure the disease) patient-centered care, and other services.
