Density is equal to the mass of the substance divided by the volume of the substance. D=m/V

When you heat a gas, it expands. When it expands, its volume increases.

If the volume of a substance increases while the mass stays the same (no loss nor gain in mass) then the density will decrease.

If the gas cools, the volume will decrease and the density will increase.

temperature in particular, with all 3 main states

pressure will increase the density of a gas greatly, but not much for a liquid or solid

density of a solid will depend on its nature ie the strength of the bonds, and the atomic number of the element. Uranium has a high atomic number, so is one of the most dense metals. Sodium has a much lower atomic number, so is one of the lightest metals and floats

density of solids cannot be altered much (except for introducing alien materials, like forcing air into styrofoam)

One of the factor affecting density?

One of the factors affecting density is temperature. Because the particles spread more apart when heated, the hotter the substance is, the less dense the substance gets. another one has six letters that describes all of it is energy!!
