What gets you fat is always a combination of what and how much you are eating, but you need to be most careful (eat least of) things that have a lot of calories in them,

Some foodstuffs with lots of calories are butter,oil and sweets.

Some also think that refined or processed carbohydrates are also dangerous for weight control.

There are lots of foods that are the criminals in obesity. the list is WAY too long, but here is the worst: fast food. All the fat and clories and grese and sugar come into your body and ruin it. But it's not really the FOOD that causes obesity; if you eat junk food all the time, then you go obese, as well as always snacking and never exercising. So next time you go to a restaurant and see the tempts, tell yourself "What's so nutritious about them anyway?" If the list has four or more things about it having a nutrtional value, then eat it. But say two or less. Then skip the burger meal and buy the salad instead. There are lots of foods that are the criminals in obesity. the list is WAY too long, but here is the worst: fast food. The truth is, no specific food will cause excessive weight by itself. We lose or gain weight based entirely on the number of calories we consume per day, vs. the number we burn. If you consume 1,000 calories more per day than you burn off, you'll probably gain a couple pounds per week.

So when looking at foods, the key is to weigh calories against nutrients. Some foods (like sweets) contain a LOT of calories but very few nutrients. This is what's called "empty" calories. Basically you're raising your calorie count in a tiny bit of food that neither satisfies you nor nourishes you.

To succeed and managing weight, you want to eat foods with as many nutrients and as few calories as possible. This way you're always full, always have all the stuff your body needs to survive, and yet you don't exceed your daily calorie burn.

In summary, ANY food that pushes your calorie intake beyond your calorie burn is causing excess weight.

In relation to food, the major causes of obesity is:

1. Over-consumption of refined processed carbohydrates. The answer is to avoid or strictly limit refined processed carbohydrates apart from an occasional treat. Unfortunately, many people are addicted to refined processed carbohydrates and find it difficult to resist these foods. Incidentally, over-consumption of refined processed carbohydrates is a major cause of Heart disease, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, type 2 Diabetes, and many other diet related conditions, in addition to obesity. 2. Coupled with the above factor, the further cause of obesity is failing to consume 'specific fat burning proteins' to utilize the thermic effect of these particular proteins to change ones metabolism from primarily burning carbohydrates to burning fats. Switching from primarily burning carbohydrates to burning fats will reduce fat storage and decrease body fat percentage.
