a nine year old is usually in 3rd or 4th grade. Kids normally start 3rd grade at age 8 and turn 9 sometime during the school year or the summer after it (depending on when their birthday is) so then they begin 4th grade at age 9.

∙ 15y agoThey will be in 3rd or 4th depending on the month of their birth. Most schools in the US have a cut-off of being 5 by September 1 to start kindergarten. So, a 9 year old born in September, October, November or December would be in 3th grade.
