Romeo is guided by his attraction for Rosaline until the last scene when he is suddenly guided by his attraction for Juliet. And up to that moment Juliet is guided by the wishes of her parents.
In Act 1, Romeo is guided by his unrequited love for Rosaline, while Juliet is influenced by her family's expectations for her future marriage. Despite these external forces, they are ultimately drawn to each other when they meet at the Capulet's party.
A Paradox in Romeo and Juliet Act 1 would be when Romeo is going to see Rosaline and being so in love with her, and then suddenly falling for Juliet.
