The disciple whose ear was chopped off was Malchus, and it was Peter who wielded the sword and cut off his ear. Jesus then miraculously healed Malchus' ear.

The man whom the Apostle Peter cut the ear off of was Malchus, a servant of the high priest. This incident occurred when Jesus was being arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion, and Peter attempted to defend him with a sword.
Peter cut off the ear of a soldier during Jesus's arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane in an attempt to defend Jesus. Peter was acting impulsively and out of loyalty to Jesus. Jesus then healed the soldier's ear and instructed Peter to put away his sword.
Peter did not do anything to one of the Roman soldiers who arrested Jesus as the Roman soldiers were not involved in the arrest. The High Priest sent some persons along with some Temple guards to arrest Jesus. One of these persons was "Malchus" who was a servant of the High Priest. Peter drew his sword and cut an ear of Malchus off. Jesus took the ear and placed it back on Malchus' head. This is the only place in Scripture where Jesus healed a fresh wound.
