This story is in Luke 2.41 - 52. Jesus was separated from his parents when they went to Jerusalem to worship. But after 3 days his parents found him, "in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions." (Luke 2.46)
Then his parents took him home and he was "subject unto them:" until the time of his ministry, when he was about 30 years old.
When Jesus was twelve, he went to the Passover meal with his parents. However, when they left, he stayed behind in Jerusalem. When his parents found him, he was in the temple talking to the religious leaders, answering and asking questions.
Jesus when he is 12 years old, he stays back in the temple . While his parents return home.He was lost for three days.
Jesus remains in the temple when he was 12 years old, he was there for three days. And the wisemen were amazed with his understanding.
