Best Answer

CaO + H2O -> Ca(OH)2

Here, CaO is Quick Lime, and Ca(OH)2 is slaked lime.

Technically, you get slaked lime after this reaction. Also, it's exothermic, so you've got a lot of heat coming out, and the water could in fact start boiling, that much heat.

Cheers :)

Lime (quicklime) is made from limestone- but it is not the same thing. Agricultural lime is powdered limestone. What are the two reactions used to make calcium hydroxide from limestone?

Firstly, the limestone is heated to produce quicklime (calcium oxide - CaO) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The a small amount of water (H2O) is added to the quicklime, to produce slaked lime (calcium hydroxide - Ca(OH)2). In conclusion: limestone quicklime + carbon dioxide quicklime + water → slaked lime I really hope that helped! :)
