Well, obviously, worst case scenario is that you develop rabies and die. Probably a little less serious is that you develop a wound infection and possibly have to have a part of your body amputated.

Seriously, though, if you are bitten by a dog that potentially has rabies, you should be seen immediately and evaluated. If the dog is yours, or someone you know owns the dog, you may need nothing more than to have the dog watched for a couple weeks. If all is well, and the dog remains healthy, you are probably safe from having rabies. If the dog is a stray and cannot be found to be tested, you need to have rabies immune globulin and start the rabies vaccination series. Go sooner, rather than later. Rabies will kill you if the full disease develops.
