Not just check your oil. This light lets you know there is a problem with the lubrication system. It could be low on oil (easiest fix, add oil to full mark). it could also be a more serious issue causing low oil pressure. This light comes on when the oil pressure is low, which can be caused by low oil level. The oil pressure sending unit could be defective as well, or the oil pump inside the engine could be going out. The best thing to do is check the oil level, if it is full remove the oil pressure sending unit and install a manual gauge and see what the oil pressure actually is. If it is low, take it to a mechanic, if it is normal (25-80 PSI@ 3000 RPM at operating temp), replace the sending unit.
