There is no canonical source for the Sailor Moon storyline, but based on the events of the anime, the writer of The Sailor Moon Role-Playing Game and Resource Book, Mark C. MacKinnon, did put together the following storyline:Please note that this is based off of the English dubbed animation, and not the manga or the original Japanese anime. While some of the events and timing are the same, the dub:Specifically stated that the Silver Millennium was "1000 years ago," and was a thousand years of harmony throughout the universe; the Japanese anime and manga never specified when the Silver Millennium was, or that it was actually a true "Millennium" at all; "Silver Millennium" instead was the name of the Moon Kingdom and those who served it.Implied that time went on unchanged after the battle with Queen Beryl; in the original Japanese animation, there was an unspoken "reset" which allowed the Senshi to start their year over again.Where possible, differences between the English dub and the original Japanese and/or the manga have been listed in square brackets.2000 Years Ago (About 8 BC)The Silver Millennium, one thousand years of peace and harmony for the entire universe [possibly not so expansive; the Japanese may have mentioned the solar system, or the galaxy, but this is doubtful. Information from Season Five indicates that the entire galaxy was not peaceful, even thousands of years ago] begins.1000 Years Ago (About 992 BC)With the help of the Negaforce [Queen Metallia], Queen Beryl breaks free of the Negaverse [Dark Kingdom] and launches an assault on the planet Earth and the Moon Kingdom. Queen Beryl's four generals, Jedite [Jadeite], Neflite/Nephlite [Nephrite], Zoycite [Zoisite], and Malachite [Kunzite] lead her armies to victory and destroy the kingdom. Many members of the royal court are killed, including Princess Serena/Serenity, Prince Darien/Endymion, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Venus, and Sailor Jupiter.Queen Serenity manages to seal the Seven Shadow Warriors [Seven Great Youma] within the Silver Crystal.Queen Serenity also uses the power of the Silver Crystal and the Crescent Moon Wand [Moon Stick] to seal away the invaders for one thousand years.Using the last of her strength, Queen Serenity sends her daughter, Prince Darien/Endymion, and the Sailor Scouts [Senshi] into the future, to be reborn as humans. She also sends Luna and Artemis into the future via cryogenic capsules to act as the Sailor's mentors.Queen Serenity dies.The Silver Crystal shatters into the seven Rainbow Crystals, each one with a Shadow Warrior/Great Youma inside. They are reborn into different humans on Earth, living at the same time as Serena/Usagi and her friends.[Note: in the original Japanese anime, it is not stated just where Beryl came from, but it is said that she got her power from suspicious, new dark sunspots. With the new dark power Beryl acquired, she incited Earth citizens to rally against the Moon Kingdom, because they were longer-lived than Earth-born humans, and the people of Earth wanted the Moon Kingdom's secret to longevity.In the manga, Beryl used to be a member of Endymion's Earth court, and was driven mad with jealousy when she discovered Endymion and Serenity's tryst. Queen Metallia, the dark power from the sunspots, still allowed her to attack both the Earth and the Moon, as well as alter Endymion's own bodyguards (Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite, and Kunzite) into servants for the Dark Kingdom. The Dark Kingdom was not an actual "place" until Queen Serenity sealed Beryl, Metallia and the other creatures with them away; there was no fixed "time limit" on her seal, but the creatures of the Dark Kingdom eventually penetrated it, leading to the events of the first season.]1974August 3: Birth of Darien Shields [Mamoru Chiba] to unnamed parents. 1975October 29: Birth of Trista Meioh [Setsuna Meioh] to unnamed parents. [Note: this assumes that Trista/Setsuna was actually reborn after the events of Sailor Moon S, and was given a complete human identity, with parents, a past, and so forth. It is equally possible that, after her rebirth, she crafted her own human identity for herself, complete with a birthday. However, her age is never explicitly stated, so her birth year here is only a guess. It is known that she is older than the other Senshi, being a university student, but also because in the Snow Princess Kaguya arc of the manga, she was able to buy alcohol, something you have to be age 20 or higher to do in Japan.In the manga, she died after the events of the second arc, equivalent to Part 2 of Sailor Moon R in the anime.Furthermore, since it is said that someone must guard the Space-Time Door at all times, but that Pluto was permitted to leave by Neo-Queen Serenity in order to assist in the events of Sailor Moon S, it is possible that Pluto can exist at multiple points in Space-Time, and Setsuna Meioh is merely her human identity.]1978January 27: Birth of Amara Tenoh [Haruka Ten'ou] to unnamed parents.March 6: Birth of Michelle Kaioh [Michiru Kaiou] to unnamed parents.April 17: Birth of Raye Hino [Rei Hino] to unnamed parents. This is likely because, despite the Japanese-sounding pronunciation of their names, they are foreigners (they are not trying to appear as Japanese), and unless they use the surname-first format of introductions in that foreign location (which turns out to be another planet where they might not even use aliases), they are introduced with given name first. However, the similarity of surnames does not indicate that the Three Lights are related in any way; no one assumed or even asked if the Lights were related in any point in the Sailor Moon canon. However, the Scouts and Prince Darien are reborn, and time continues without reset or interruption, implied by Serena "meeting" Darien again in a hospital, stating he was in a really bad accident, and the aliens Alan and Ann saying that they heard about Earth being a ripe source for energy from Queen Beryl.Late MarchIn the dub timeline, the Sailor Scouts enter grade 8 again, implied by the fact that Serena is still taught by Ms. Haruna, rather than a new teacher, as she would be if she had moved up to the final year of Junior High, Grade 9 (Year 3 in Japanese junior high). In the original Japanese, they get to do over the year 1992, which effectively means the events of the first season never happened.The events from the English dub episodes 41-44 occur, including the arrival of aliens Alan and Ann [Ail and An, who use the aliases Seijurou and Natsumi Ginga], who aim to steal energy from humans in order to fuel the growth of their roaming home, the Doom Tree [Makaiju], and the re-awakening of Sailor Moon and the other Scouts [Senshi].AprilThe events from English dub episode 45 occur, including Sailor Moon powering up. Certain events in this movie, including the appearance of Sailor Pluto and the attacks that both Sailors Uranus and Neptune utilize place this movie as taking place after the SuperS continuity. The timing of this movie (the setting), which aired before the SuperS movie in Japanese theatres, is based on the fact that it takes place during practice high school entrance exams in Japan. These practice exams are typically administered shortly before "the real thing," in early March of the school year prior to beginning high school.Late March-Late OctoberThe events of Sailor Stars occur, Japanese episodes 167-200. Usagi, Minako, Ami, and Makoto all enter high school at Juuban High. Rei continues her education at T.A. Girls School, a private Catholic academy with all grades.In the final episode, Usagi says that she is age 16 and in the first year of high school. This places her in the latter half of the first school year, which easily could be late October. While technically Usagi should be 17, due to the events of SuperS, it's possible that much of "1995" was actually dreamed, and she actually turned 16 in 1994, due to the time reset from Season 1.
