as the amplitude increases the waves get closer together like an Accordion being squeezed...so the vibrations become faster (or higher pitched if we're talking about sound) if the amplitude is decreased the waves spread out and the vibration is slower and lower in pitch

What happens to the frequency of the waves when you increase the rate of vibration?

the amplitude increases

What usually happens to the amplitude of the vibration of a circular water wave as it spreads out?

You would expect the Amplitude to DECREASE as the wave spreads out.

What does amplitude tells us about a vibration?

amplitude shows how strong/big the vibration is.

What is the maximum displacement of the vibration from equilibrium position?

The amplitude.The amplitude.The amplitude.The amplitude.

What is the difference between amplitude and vibration?

Amplitude- The maximum distance to which an oscillating or vibrating object moves from its central position is called amplitude. Vibration- Sound is produced by rapid -to and -fro movements ,called vibrations.

When there is a reduction in amplitude over every cycle of vibration then the body is said to have?

damped vibration

damped vibration

Measures the amount of particle vibration?

Amplitude measures the amount of particle vibration.

Is a sound quieter when a vibration is smaller?

No. If a vibration is smaller, the sound is higher pitched. To get a quieter sound the amplitude of the sound-wave needs to be smaller. +++ It depends whether you mean amplitude or wavelength being "smaller", and they are two different things. If the vibration's amplitude is smaller the sound is quieter irrespective of frequency. If the vibration is more rapid, the frequency is higher but the wavelength correspondingly smaller irrespective of amplitude.

How does amplitude affect sound?

Amplitude decides the intensity (loudness) of the sound. Intensity is directly proportional to the square of the amplitude of vibration.
