What happens to children of sociopaths?

No. Sociopaths have no conscience. The victim of a sociopath has a conscience and emotions and will not become a sociopath. If the victim of a sociopath is acting different it is probably because of the abuse the victim is enduring from the sociopath.

I am married to a man whose mother is definitely a psychological sociopath. She has no friends and although can act very charming, has made trouble for almost everyone who has passed through her life. This even extends to her grandchildren and the married partners of her adult children (except for the on in laws).

Someone remarked that she must be a very unhappy person, but I totally disagree. She is happiest when she is hurting others. She makes up stories, lies, and tries to smear anyone who distances themselves from her abuse.

What do I see in her grown children? One daughter is patterning after her mother more and more perfectly as she ages. I this a learned behaviour or is she also sociopahtic? She apparently never learned from the hurts inflicted on herself. The other has a persistent nervous skin rash and used to go home and cover up in bed and cry as a grown woman after her many hurtful encounters with her sociopathic mother.

One son is very controlling, throws tantrums like a little child and monopolizes all attention by loud talking. He has no concept of a 'converstation' and blathers on endlessly about himself. He has had 3 different partners who all left him.

He phones his mother every day and 'shares his day and all the news' with mommy. This gives mommy dearest lots of fuel to continue her harassments. His mother takes preference over his children (Please be good to grandma for my sake no matter what. After all she is your grandmother).

The mother takes precedence over all his 'wives' no matter what kind of trouble she causes. He could not connect in a normal sexual way with his women, but likes to phone sex lines for gratification. Does he feel he is cheating on his mother???

The other son had a happy marriage for 6 years until his normal loving father died and his mother waged a hate campaign first against her son's wife, then against her son when she could not break up the marriage. The son nearly had a nervous breakdown and now resents his wife for the family trouble she causes by being present in his home as his wife!!! Talk about twisted thinking.

Sociopathic parents leave their children a long legacy of confused emotions and unrealistic thinking. These adult children prefer to believe that their parent loves them and would never lie or hurt them. In this case, they pretend they are one big happy wonderful family and never reveal family information or problems. They all cover up fathfully for one another as well as their mother. All of the adult children continue to run back to their mother repeatly trying to win approval and acceptance that will never come. Noticing It All

Not all of them, but being a sociopath is partly genetic and the likelihood of sociopathic parents having sociopathic children is higher. It is even higher if both parents are sociopaths, which happens a lot as a sociopath will tend to marry another sociopath as that is the only kind of person they can relate to in anyway.

it all depends on what she does. my mother kept me out of school and seriously abused me. I'm not 18 yet so i can't tell you too much about life after moving out. it also depends on the child's original personality

well it depends if they have copied of what their own parents have done that was so crazy.It would happen, but most likely not much.
