When hot water and cold water are mixed together, heat flows from hot water to cold water and brings them to equilibrium at a temperature intermediate to that of hot water and the cold water That may be right, but I think that the hot water would be more dominant causing the cold water to almost instantly turn hot.

∙ 16y agoHot water cools down. Same thing as two air masses, one hot and one cold meet. The warm water will rise, the cold will fall and the two will equize to the room temperature.

When the particles are mixed, they find a medium temperature. So as both objects are adjusting to this new middle ground in the temperature you notice the difference. (they both become the same temp.) ' You can prove this by getting a cup of steaming hot water, and a cup of freezing cold water, pour both into a large bowl and mix it, after its mixed, put your hand in, it won't be hot or cold, but luke warm (or about there, depending on how hot or cold the water you used was).
