Some drugs cause your heart-rate to increase, whereas others make your heart beat faster. It all depends on the drug. Some- like PCP- can cause people to have heart attacks too (because the incredible amounts of adrenaline you pump out).

First of all the speeding up of your heart is temporary, and fairly moderate (on par with jogging). Second, most people that take it DONT "die from a heart attack." In fact most people that take it, (most is an understatement) live long lives as long as they dont get killed by someone on the 5th most dangerous drug in the world... alcohol. For instance it was estimated more than 100 million doses of ecstasy were taken in NYC.......... and 2 people died... TWO, one of them was concluded to have pre-existing heart problems to begin with.
