In a democracy people have complete control, and they get the chance to vote in the changes they want to see; in a republic there representives who are elected in, and make the decisions based on what they think should pass. Democracy is a system that many say is bound to fail, but no social system has ever proven successful, at least not yet; althrough out history empires and governments have fallen and started over. It's a complete cycle that will never end, and a republic is a system that we have in America.
