How does the extinction of various species results in a less diverse ecosystem?

The diversity of an ecosystem is how many different species (or types of organisms) there are. If a species becomes extinct, then there is 1 less species in that ecosystem and there is less diversity. If more than one species dies out, then the diversity is decreased by more than one organism.

What will most likely occur if two different plant species compete for the same requirements in an ecosystem?

3.One species may be eliminated from that ecosystem

How is the species diversity related to the stability of an ecosystem?

When you have more than one species in a given niche, then if one species declines for whatever reason, there are other species which can replace it, and the ecosystem as a whole remains functional.

Why do conservation efforts currently focus on protecting entire ecosystem as well as single species?

Today, conservation efforts focus on protecting entire ecosystems as well as single species. Protecting an ecosystem will ensure that the natural habitats and the interactions of many different species are preserved at the same time.

How protecting one species could preserve an entire ecosystem?

An ecosystem s a complex web of interacting living things that have evolved to be in balance with one another. Remove one of the components and the whole ecosystem ceases to work (eg remove the predators and the herbivores numbers will grow unchecked until they have eaten ALL the plants). The activities of man frequently remove one species form ecosystems and protecting these means that the whole ecosystem benefits.

Are mosquitoes a keystone species?

A keystone species is one that other lifeforms in an ecosystem depend on. Mosquitoes are a keystone species because they are extremely low on the food chain, and if they were removed from an ecosystem, the food supply would be interrupted.

In an ecosystem a large number of species are dependent of one particular species bird the species of bird is an example of a an species?

In an ecosystem, a large number of species are dependent of one species of bird. This species of bird is an example of a keystone species.

Species diversity is the number of what?

species diversity is the number of species that live in one area (or ecosystem)

Why species are important?

The pioneer species begins an ecosystem for succession such as lichens. They start an ecosystem after the previous was destroyed or start an all new one

What would happen to a pond ecosystem if one factor was removed from it?

nothing it depends on what factor was removed

What happens when things are unbalanced in an ecosystem?

this that are affected by the change deceasse in population. At the same time, opportunities are opened for other organisms. For that reason, there are essentially no unbalanced ecosystemson Earth. Where a major species fails, another species rises totake it's place. There is NO GUARANTEES for any one species, orgroup of species, or even an entire ecosystem, and they are inconstant change.
