i had a 106 and the timing belt came loose , it came off and wrecked the timing of the engine causing it to destroy its self . i presume it will be the same effect if it did snap .
No
A car's timing belt can start to melt and snap if it is fitted too tight. Most timing belts should have a half turn of play on them.
You will not know. It may look great and be ready to snap. That is why you are required to replace the belt at a set mileage. If the engine is an interference engine and the belt breaks you will be more than just stranded with a non-running engine. You will have major internal engine damage. Replace the belt at the interval that is listed in your owners manual and do not neglect this maintenance.
If the engine is a non-interference type then the answer is NO. See the list below:
im a ase cert tech. your 2.7 has a timing chain not a belt with the chain you will sometimes here a ticking noise coming from the eng on a belt yes they can snap in a instant no warning at all. this is why you should replace the timing belts every 60k to 90k miles.
The Toyota MR2 factory recommendations say to change the belt at 90,000 miles. If the belt runs past its use and the belt can snap leading to complete engine failure.
Belts wear out over time and chains will break from lack of lubrication.
no spark our timing belt snap our jumped timing
yes engine damage will occur should the timing belt snap in service
Where do you set crank and cam shaft marks to set timing on a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder?" Did the timing belt snap ? if so the engine will have bent valves and require more work than just the belt. This is timing belt job is not one for the inexperienced diy mechanic. Not trying to be a wise guy, but get the manual, the timing mark set up isn't a simple explanation .
this is a interference engine ,is this a belt change at how many miles or did the belt snap, you didnt say this makes all the difference, since this a interference engine, and a broken belt could mean major engine damage,to valves and pistons,
Replace at 120,000 miles. The recomendation by Ford, and my regular auto mechanic is 80,000 miles. However I pushed mine to a 110,000 before I had it changed. It was about worn out and ready to snap. I also had the water punp changed at the same time.
