Like charges repel, unlike charges attract, is what I learned at school. This is true for electric/magnetic charges. Within the atomic nucleus other forces take over, so two protons can live together.

A positively-charged object will attract negatively-charged objects and repel positively-charged objects.

A negatively-charged object will repel negatively-charged objects and attract positively-charged objects.

Negative or positive charges will slightly attract neutral objects.

Neutral objects do not attract or repel each other.

General Rules:

1. Like repels like.

2. Opposites attract.

They repel each other by electrostatic repulsion. But in the nucleus when protons are very close to each other there is an attractive force which overcomes the repulsion, this force has a very short range. The theory behind this force is still a bit doubtful, it's one of the objects of theoretical physics to be able to understand it fully, but it certainly exists.

Opposites tend to attract (North-South, Positive-Negative, etc...).

On the nuclear level, matter & anti-matter will anihilate each other (releasing pure energy). A positron and an electron are two such particles that will destroy each other and emit radiation as a result.

repel each other

This is much less true with people.

the law of electric charges states that like charges repel, or push away, and opposite charges attract.

What happens when two similer objects which are charged are brought near to each other?

If the charges are of the same sign (for instance, both have a negative charge), they will repel one another. If the charges are opposite (one positive, one negative), they will attract one another. If the objects actually touch one another, the charges may cancel, in part or totally.

What happens to statically charged objects as they move apart?

An electrostatic charge is caused by donating additional electrons to an object, or stripping electrons from an object. This gives the item a negative charge or positive charge, respectively. Two items of like charges repel each other.

What happens when two positive charges repel?

Think about what happens when two magnets with a north pole are brought together. Ig becomes harder and harder to bring them together as the distance between them decrease. The last inch seems impossible no matter how hard you try. That's what happens when positive charges are brought together.

What happens when two objects with unlike charges come together?

That depends on what the charges are. There's an easy rule: opposites attract. So if one is positive and one is negative, they'll be attracted (the greater the charges, the greater the attraction), while if they are both positive or both negative, they'll be repelled (again, the greater the charges, the more they'll be repelled).
