Savlon could be used, this is an antiseptic cream used on cuts, grazes, burns, sunscreen etc
You can, it won't do any harm. But you'd be better off using an antiseptic cream such as germolene/savlon, just to keep the wound clean and germ free. Palmer's is not an antiseptic cream.
Chlorhexidine gluconate is the chemical name for the veterinary drug known as Savlon.
Dettol has a stong smell and turns cloudy when poured on water, whereas savlon does not turn cloudy in water. No sting property of savlon is the key differentiator
I would use a plastic washing-up bowl, or a similar bowl, with warm soapy water to which I've added a strong antiseptic liquid (either Dettol or Savlon would be my choice, here in England).
They tend to dry out over time. Provided they are still sealed, they can be considered as sterile.
