Leutinizing hormone (LH) is the hormone that stimulates a follicle to develop a mature egg. LH and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) work together to regulate egg production and ovulation in females.

The luteinizing hormone is responsible for release of the egg from the mature follicle. The immature follicles do not release the eggs. Usually there are few immature follicles and one (or two) mature follicles. This luteinizing hormone comes from the anterior pituitary.

What stimulates the development of eggs in the females ovary?

Follicle-stimulating hormone, or FSH, stimulates the ovaries. The hormone triggers the growth of immature ovarian follicles, which eventually culminates in the release of a mature egg.

What is the letter abbreviation for hormone that stimulates ovulation?

LH Leutenizing hormone- it stimulates the release of the oocyte into the fallopian tube, i.e. ovulation. [Do not confuse with FSH- follicle stimulating hormone, which stimulates the growth/maturation of the follicle containing the oocyte IN the Ovary.]

What anterior pituitary hormone stimulates the testis and ovary to produce and produce sperm and eggs respectively?

Follicle stimulating hormone stimulates the gonads to produce gametes. It is sometimes abbreviated FSH.

Which hormone stimulates egg release?

Ovulation, that is a process by which a mature ovarian follicle releases an ovum, is triggered by the spike in the amount of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) released from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland.

What is follicle stimulating hormone target tissue?

A hormone secreted from the pituitary that is essential for egg release from the ovary?

FSH or Follicle Stimulating Hormone

How is the name follicle-stimulating hormone appropriate for its function?

In females, in the ovary FSH stimulates the growth of immature Graafian follicles to maturation. Graafian follicles are the mature follicle. Primary follicles mature to Graafian follicles. As the follicle grows, it releases inhibin, which shuts off the FSH production.

The luteinizing hormone stimulates ovulation in the female?

Yes, but it is the surge that brings on ovulation. The luteinizing hormone is required to stimulate the ovarian follicles in the ovary to produce the female sex hormone, estradiol. And around day 14 of the cycle, a surgein luteinizing hormone levels causes the ovarian follicle to tear and release a mature oocyte (egg) from the ovary, a process called ovulation. For the remainder of the cycle (weeks three to four), the remnants of the ovarian follicle form a corpus luteum. Luteinizing hormone stimulates the corpus luteum to produce progesterone which is required to support the early stages of pregnancy, if fertilization occurs.

Does sex hormones release the egg from ovary?

Sex hormone do not release the egg from the ovary. Ovary produces the sex hormones. The egg is released by the FSH or follicle stimulating hormone released by anterior pituitary.
