The antifreeze change and flush interval is changed from what the owners manual says, Usually every 5 years.
The interval is now 2 years.
Generally it is caused by mixing two incompatible types of antifreeze. Such as regular green propylene glycol with Dex-Cool. They are supposed to be mixable, but they turn into an orange-green mud in the cooling system.
It probably takes the orange stuff which is dex-cool, if your smart you will have the complete cooling system flushed and put in the old green antifreeze as the dex-cool has been known to eat head and intake gaskets.
dex-cool There is currently several class action law suits in regard to Dexcool. Check it out on the internet. Have the complete system flushed and install the green antifreeze.
it is not reccomended to mix orange coolant with green. it will harm cooling system. only use dex-cool or the correct brand. call dealership to see if universal coolant is ok!!
this jeep is filled with red antifreeze witch is bio safe and should not be mixed with the old green antifreeze it will be referred to as dexi-cool and can be purchased at any parts store if the cooling system is empty you can fill it with either red or green
green antifreeze is just the usual antifreeze red anitfreeze is newer bio degradable antifreeze. supposed to be NON harmful to the environment red is more than likely cool Tex. It is a 5 year antifreeze. The green is ordinary polypropylene and should be replaced every 2 years.
yes, but you need to get rid of all of the dex-cool first... needs flushed really really good then you can replace the cool with normall cool (green). Now there are some Universal Antifreeze that will mix with dex-cool. that coolant says on the bottle ANY COLOR, ANY MAKE, ANY MODEL....
you can change it to green, however, the "green" antifreeze will corode your radiator, water pump and anything else that is alumnium in your cooling system. Also, while dex-cool may seem expensive now, you dont have to change it as often as the green which will save you money in the long run
I would recommend the old green antifreeze as the new Dex-cool is garbbage, it contributes to blown intake gaskets and head gaskets.
The colour isn't what's important - it's what's on the label. If you have a vehicle which requires Dex-Cool antifreeze, then you need to look for something which is Dex-Cool approved. That will usually be orange or red in colour.
Never use regular antifreeze in a Cadillac, you need to us GM DEX-COOL or it will ruin your cooling system. Jim
I recommend flushing the system and replacing Dex-cool every 5 years or 100K miles.
