China made major intellectual and technological strides in history during their classical age, many of which is evident in the art forms of the time. Bronze work, pottery, and monuments are such examples. On the scientific side of things Chinese astronomers developed an accurate based on a year of 365.5 days and observed sunspots. Chinese scientists steadily improved their instrumentation and eventually developed a king of seismograph in order to register earthquakes during the Han dynasty. The Chinese were also quite active in medical research, studying principles of hygiene that could promote longer life, as well as developing precise anatomical knowledge. Chinese also made great strides in mathematics, also studying the mathematics of music in ways that led to advances in acoustics.
