Among other things, 1 ampere is equal to:

  • 1 coulomb / second
  • 1 volt / 1 ohm

Basically, you can understand 1 ampere as a certain amount of electric charge (1 coulomb) flowing past a certain point per second (although in the SI, the definitions are the other way round: the coulomb is a unit derived from the ampere).

What is the electric charge unit for physics?

The SI unit of electric charge in physics is the coulomb, symbolized as 'C'. It is defined as the charge transported by a constant current of one ampere in one second.
