No, you cannot use a metrc socket on a standard socket wrench. These are two different systems of measurement and are not interchangeable.

My 1997 Expedition uses a 35mm Socket. Paid $16 at Checkers for one.
35mm on the front, some people use a 6 sided 36mm without problems
42mm is a standard socket. If you mean "what SAE socket fits," none of them do. BTW, what are you trying to get off that's got a nut that big on it?
The focal length would roughly double. For example, if you have a 60mm lens for a Hasselblad, and managed to hack it to fit a 35mm camera, that same 60mm lens would be roughly 120mm in a 35mm camera.
