Ford only calls it the 390 - they don't indicate a liter size ( it would be almost 6.4 L )
According to one of Fords websites : For a 1967 Ford Galaxie , 6.4 liter / 390 cubic inch V8 engine : ( the spark plugs are gapped at .035 inch )
Motorcraft.com does not list a liter size for the 390 - they only refer to it as the 390 cubic inch . ( the 400 cubic inch is the 6.6 L / the 360 cubic inch is the 5.9 L )

i think somewhere i heard that the 390 v8 actually has 390 hp, but im not sure

Depends on the C6 transmission you have. They made several variants for different Ford Engine types for the FE and 385 Big Blocks. So For a 390 you will need a C6 that mates to an FE engine.
