Charmander is a fire type Pokemon from the Kanto region. It resembles a small red bipedal lizard with a flame on it's tail. The flame is its life force and if it ever goes out, the Charmander will die.

Charmander is a "Starter Pokemon" in Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Green (Japan only), Fire Red and Leaf Green. All aspiring Pokemon trainers when they are children are given a Starter Pokemon from their local regional Pokemon Professor. In Kanto, the setting of the first Pokemon games, trainers are given a choice between a Bulbasaur (grass type), Charmander (fire type) or Squirtle (water type).

Lucky trainers who are not able to choose between these three due to unavailability may also be given a choice of surrogate starters in Pikachu (electric type) or Eevee (normal type that evolves into several different types).

All Starter Pokemon evolve twice, having three different forms in all. Charmander, a child Pokemon, evolves into Charmeleon, which is akin to its teenage form. Charmeleon then evolves into Charizard, a human-sized orange dragon, which is its adult form.

Starters also always go in a circle of being weak to one starter and powerful against another. Charmander is a fire type, which makes it weak to water type Squirtle. And Squirtle's water type makes it vulnerable to grass type Bulbasaur, because plants absorb water. But Bulbasaur's plant-composition makes it easily flammable to Charmander, a fire type. Thus, one is weak and strong against the other two.
