There was many health risks with bald eagles getting poisoned by it getting into the water supply. The fish in the water got poisined and the Bald Eagles ate the fish, they did NOT die though.

DDT is very toxic for humans, may be accumulated in soils, waters and foods; also the natural degradation in the environment is the very long term.

But DDT is a very effective chemical against insects.

In humans it affected health through genotoxicity or endocrine disruption.it was not exactly banned because later on it was replaced with something else :)

DDT is a strong pesticide : dichlorodiphenyltrichlorethane; DDT was banned because is dangerous for humans and many animals, also the degradation is very slow.
