MAB is the Manufacture d'Armes de Bayonne, later renamed Manufacture d'Armes Automatiques de Bayonne, a French semi-automatic pistol manufacturer from 1921-1982.

6.35 is 6.35mm, or more exactly 6.35x16mm Browning SR, is the metric caliber or size of a firearm cartridge. It is the same as .25 ACP, a small caliber center fire cartidge comparable to the rimfire .22 Long Rifle. The .25 ACP was popular in the first half of the 20th century for small pistols since it was easier to make reliable centerfire mechanisms than rimfire mechanisms. Today, with improved manufacturing methods, it has largely been replaced by the .22 LR.

brevete is the French word meaning patented

Most MAB pistol models are marked "brevete" on their slide. MAB made a number of 6.35mm pistols, including the models A, B, E, and GZ (the GZ also came in other calibers). MAB pistols made after about 1933 will have their model marked on the slide, usually on the left side. Early models A and B are not marked, although later ones are.

Where can you find 7.65 ammunition for a MAB Brevete model D?

The French MAB 7.65 Cal. Brevete Model D is normally chambered for the 7.65x17mm Browning SR, which is the same as .32 ACP. This is a pretty common round, which can easily be found at any local gun shop and many sporting goods stores. You can also buy it through mail order outlets. Whether this is cheaper depends on the cost of shipping the ammo.

Where can you find info on MAB Brevete model A?

Blue Book of Gun Values====================Reliable information on the MAB model A is scarce, despite MAB producing them from 1921-1964 (Type I: 1921-1924; Type II: 1925-1964). Probably the best current source for information on MAB pistols is Ed Buffaloe's website Unblinking Eye, in both his general history of MAB and his article specifically on the model ABoth of these are still works-in-progress, but provide the most complete information currently available in English and probably in any language (including French). For published information on the model A and MAB pistols in general, the single best source is Jean Huon's Les Pistolets Automatiques Francais: 1890-1990 (Histoire & Collections, Paris: 1995), but the information on Unblinking Eye is more correct, complete and current.(disclosure -- I provide some of the research Ed uses in his articles on MAB pistols, including the model A.)
