Hale was actually Rosalie's real last name but when she came a vampire she didn't want to change her name because she wanted to keep something from her human life. Jasper took on the name Hale because everyone thought that he and Rosalie looked like twins so he went along with it. Esme's last name was never Hale. These are the names of the characters:
