Saphira is a dragon from 'The Inheritance Cycle'. She has appeared in all three books to date. Saphira has a dragon/rider relationship with the rider Eragon. He found her egg in a treacherous mountain area known as The Spine. He mistook the egg for a stone. After failed attempts to trade the egg for meat or to sell it to a trader, Saphira hatched. Eragon hid her in the woods and raised her. She is now a fierce warrior in the battle against the villain, Galbatorix. She often has a sharp and sarcastic sense of humor, but a tight moral code. She is extremly loyal and wise. She shares a very tight bond with Eragon and is quite protective over him. It appears that Saphira may be the last female dragon in existence and has expressed concerns over dragons dying out all together.
