Simon represents purity and the goodness that is within human beings. In fact, many people believe that he is meant to symbolize Jesus Christ because he was also pure and good. Near the end of his life, Simon tries to tell the other boys that the "beastie" they are worried about is actually just a dead parachutist. He is unable to do so because the other boys murder him while under the frenzy of their hunting dance. Also, Simon tries to help Ralph build shelters for the boys. Additionally, Simon likes to keep to himself. He often goes off to various parts of the island alone.
