Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions. If living things did not have enzymes, they would need to rely on random collision, or heat. Collision is not preferable because the substrates must collide perfectly (could take awhile). Raising the heat energy in our body would cause all the reactions to go off at once, which is also not preferable.

Enzymes are catalysts. They all have a specific shape, which determines function. The substrate fits perfectly into the enzyme.

Denatured enzymes are the same as?

Denatured enzymes are enzymes whose structure has been altered, leading to loss of their original function. They lose their ability to catalyze reactions efficiently or at all due to changes in their shape or folding. This can be caused by factors such as temperature, pH, or exposure to chemicals.

Do humans have any enzymes in bodies?

Yes, humans have a wide range of enzymes in their bodies. Enzymes are biological molecules that catalyze biochemical reactions, helping to regulate various processes like digestion, metabolism, and cellular function. Some examples of enzymes found in humans include amylase for breaking down carbohydrates, lipase for digesting fats, and DNA polymerase for replicating DNA.

What is a type of protein or RNA molecule that speeds up metabolic reactions in plants and animals without being permanently changed or destroyed?

Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up metabolic reaction rates by lowering the reaction's activation energy. Proteins and RNA molecules can both function as enzymes.

Enzymes have specific what that determine their function?

Enzymes have specific active sites that determine their function. These active sites are where substrates bind and reactions take place, allowing enzymes to catalyze specific chemical reactions. The specificity of enzymes is key to their ability to interact with specific substrates and carry out specific functions in the body.

What is the main function in starch in plants?

The main function of starch in plants is to store energy.
