The impulse starts in the right atria in the sinus node, then travels through the intratrial fibers for atrial contraction, then travels down to the the av node where it is delayed, then travels down through the bundle branches to the purkinjee fibers to the ventricular myocardium for contraction.

Why does the heart have the Bundle of His and the Purkinje fibers?

The bundle of His and the Purkinje fibres are part of the conduction system of the heart. In order to pump blood around the body, the heart muscle must contract (atria first to fill the ventricles, then ventricles contract to send the blood around the body.) The conduction system starts in the sinoatrial node (SA node) which is also known as the hearts natural pacemaker and is located at the top of the right atrium. The impulse is then sent to the atrioventricular node (AV node) located by the junction between the atria and ventricles. The next part of the conduction system is the bundle of His which sends the impulse from the atria to the ventricles. The purkinje fibres then spread through the ventricles. As the impulse passes through each part of the conduction system, that part of the heart is excited and the heart muscle contracts, which gives the pumping action of the heart.

What characterizes the normal operation of the heart?

each part contracts in a specific order. Contraction of the muscle is triggered by an electrical impulse. These electrical impulses travel through specialized cells that form a conduction system. Following this pathway ensures that contractions will

What are the elements of the intrinsic conduction system in order beginning with pacemaker?

SAN >internodal pathway> AVN> AV/Hiss bundle> bundle branches> purkinje fibres

Why does the heart pumps when the person is scared?

We have sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. When we are fightened or scared, sympathetic nerves trigger impulse into the brain in order to release adrenaline. This adrenaline makes the heart beat faster because more oxygen is required. This helps us cope from stress. After a while parasympathetic nerves send impulse to reduce the release of adrenaline and the heart starts beating normally

Why must substances be touching in order for conduction occur?

Because, conduction is the transfer of heat flow fro one object to another. So that means they must touch to make conduction occur.

In order for heat to be transferred between two objects by conduction?

Two objects must be touching and it has to transfer heat

What causes normal sinus rhythms?

When the presence of all waves is observed in the electrocardiogram, and these waves follow the order defined alphabetically, the heart is said to show a normal sinus rhythm, and impulses may be assumed to be following the regular conduction pathway
