The 4 paragraph essay is a format used in most junior highs and sometimes into high school the idea is to have 4 paragraphs the first being an introductory paragraph the second and third being body and the fourth being the conclusion. This method drops off in late High School and is nonexistent in college. Its meant to give students the basic idea of the elements of an essay and how they work.
