A planet seen close to the Sun at dawn or dusk is sometimes called the Morning Star or Evening Star.
In the context of medieval weaponry, the Morning Star resembles a combination mace/spiked club. It could be either a foot soldier's or mounted soldier's weapon. In the simplest terms, it was a wooden-handled weapon (betweeen 2 and 4 feet long), with a metal end. This metal end was usually an iron cylinder, which had roughly a dozen or more 4-inch iron spikes protruding out perpendicular to the shaft, plus usually a long spike at the end (typically 6 inches in length). It is different from a mace, in that a mace's head was usually a forged ball or cylinder with metal studs or short (1-2 inch) flanges cast as a single piece (i.e. the flanges or studs were not added later). It differs from a spiked club in that the spiked club did not have the protective metal cylinder at the head end.
