There are numerous Bible references to courage. Here are a few. From the Old Testament: Numbers 13:20 - whether the land is rich or poor; and whether there are forests there or not. Be of good courage. And bring some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes. Deuteronomy 31:6, 7 - "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and of good courage, for you must go with this people to the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall cause them to inherit it. (There are very similar passages in Deuteronomy 31:23; Joshua 1:6, 7, 9, 18; 10:25; 23:6; 2 Samuel 10:12; and 1 Chronicles 19:13; 22:13; 28:20, among others.) 2 Chronicles 15:8 - And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and removed the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had taken in the mountains of Ephraim; and he restored the altar of the Lord that was before the vestibule of the Lord. Psalm 27:14 - Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 31:24 - Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord. Isaiah 41:6 - Everyone helped his neighbor, And said to his brother, "Be of good courage!" From the New Testament: Mark 15:43 - Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Acts 28:15 - And from there, when the brethren heard about us, they came to meet us as far as Appii Forum and Three Inns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage. Several more NT references use either "encourage" or "discourage:" Romans 1:12 - that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. Colossians 2:2 - that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, Colossians 3:21 - Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. 1 Thessalonians 3:2 - and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith, Hebrews 12:3 - For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. Hebrews 12:5 - And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
