A death note is another name for a suicide note which is left by someone when they take their own life. Some people misuse the word as a threatning letter to take someone else's life.
A death note is also the small black notebook which is used by several characters in the anime/manga series "Death Note." With the use of the note, you can kill people. In order to do this you must know the victim's full name and face.
Death notes were originally used by Shinigami (death gods) who killed humans before their destined death date and were thus able to keep the remaining life span for themselves. Light Yagami, the main character of the anime/manga, tried to make a utopia by killing off criminals with the note's powers.
The Death Note itself has many rules and circumstances which enable/hinder the user to carry out deaths in varying degrees of complexity.
Some rules of the Death Note are as followed-
1. The name of the human whose name is written in the Death Note shall die.
2. Its optional to write down a cause of death. If you do NOT write down a cause of death then the person will simple die of a heart attack in 40seconds.
3. If you DO write a cause of death then you have 6minutes and 40seconds to describe the cause and until it takes affect.
4. You MUST know the NAME and FACE of the person when you are writing the name in the Death Note, if not then anybody with the same name as the person will not be affected.
