A ditloid is a type of riddle formed out of letters. They are sometimes called letter equations.

They got their name from the first known ditloid:

1 ditloid = 1 (One) Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch

Some other examples:

24 H in a D = 24 hours in a day

52 C in a P = 52 cards in a pack

20000 LU the S = 20000 Leagues Under the Sea.
