One example of diffusion in plants is the movement of water and nutrients from the soil into the plant roots through the process of osmosis. In this process, water molecules move from an area of high concentration (soil) to an area of low concentration (plant roots) to maintain equilibrium. Another example is the exchange of gases such as carbon dioxide and oxygen in the leaves through stomata, where these gases move from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration by diffusion.

Diffusion in plants occur when the plant need to respirate, that is, exchanging gases from its inside, with gases of the atmosphere. In respirations, there's mainly exchange of oxygen, carbon dioxyde and and water steam. For every organisms water is on of the most important molecules, if plants lose their water, they could die. So, they prevent this dessecation by exchanging gases exclusively at night, when temperatures are lower and water can't evaporate and diffuse out of the plant.

Also notice that plants respirate by their leaves with a cell arrengement called stomata.
