Juris Doctor (abbreviated) J.D. or D.Jur, graduate degree and professional doctorate in law offered by universities and law schools in a number of countries.

=============================

Most Canadian law schools still call the law degree a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). It is considered to be a graduate degree. The three year law school program covers the same areas of law as do law schools in other jurisdictions.

Update: Some Canadian law schools are now converting, retroactively, the LL.B. degree to a D.Jur.

Any four-year degree from an accredited college is sufficient. To further your career as an attorney while you are an undergraduate, you should consider preparing yourself to work in an area that is useful in law and that is under-represented in law. This will give you a leg up on other new attorneys. it is almost essential to offer a potential employer something more than a run-of-the-mill J.D. As an example some people get a nursing degree then go to law school. This gives them better entry into medical malpractice work. Any technical degree would prove useful. For example, aeronautical engineering combined with a law degree could help get your work in the legal aviation field. A recent development are attorneys who also have medical degrees. If it is possible, get a part-time job at a law firm that handles the kind of work you are considering while in college. It is never to early to make connections. Other than that the three most important things to do in college to become an attorney are 1) Learn to write. 2) Learn to write. 3) Learn to write.

Law school awards either a doctorate of jurisprudence or a bachelor's in the letters of law. The next level would be the LLM or masters of the letters of law.
