Earth has one natural satellite, the moon, which is in orbit around the earth. There are around 3000 man made satellites currently in orbit and several more thousand (around 5000 additional) man-made objects in orbit which are over 10cm (space debris etc.).

The objects that can orbit around stars as follows.

  • Stars - Most stars belong to binary systems. Down to 0.075 solar masses.
  • Brown Dwarf Stellar Object - between 0.075 solar masses and 13 Jovian masses (0.012 solar masses).
  • Planets - Gas Giant, Ice Giants, Terrestrial. - Objects sufficient in size to become spherical because of gravity and also large enough to clear the area around there own orbit.
  • Dwarf planets - Object big enough to become spherical but not big enough to clear the area around there orbit.
  • Asteroids - Rocky bodies larger than Meteoroids but smaller than Dwarf planets.
  • Comets - Icy bodies larger than Meteoroids but smaller than dwarf planets.
  • Meteoroids. - Any natural object ranging in size from dust to boulder size.

It is conceivable that a black hole could also orbit a large star.

One Moon, a couple of thousand artificial satellites, and tens of thousands of pieces of "space junk" such as old rocket boosters, tools, collision debris from at least three destroyed satellites. We humans are a messy bunch; we've even littered up the orbit!

It depends. It could be a satellite (a moon or an artificial satellite) or a planet or

even a star. Then there are other objects such as asteroids and comets. Probably this question is expecting "satellite" as the answer.

The moon is the most obvious thing that orbits Earth. At any time there are many satellites and occasionally some other spacecraft orbiting Earth. There are also individual objects that have been dropped by astronauts or things effectively dumped in space during our space exploration that are still orbiting us.

That object is called satellite, there are two types of satellites: natural satellite and man-made satellite, natural satellite are natural and man-made satellite are machines that observes the space, like the hubble space telescope.

Satellite. Satellites can be natural, in which case we usually call them "moons", or artificial.

There is no minimum mass or volume requirements for an object to be classified as a natural satellite. For this classification to happen, a body must orbit around a planet or other celestial body.

What celestial body does the moon orbit?

Usually the Moon (Earth's) is said to orbit Earth, although the latter is sometimes not regarded as a celestial body per se. There are also arguments based on the nature of the lunar orbit that it is actually co-orbiting the Sun along with the Earth, that Earth and our moon simply share an orbit.

What is a moons technical name?

A moon can also be referred to as a natural satellite, which is defined as "a celestial body that orbits another body". A natural satellite can orbit a planet, dwarf planet, minor planet, asteroid, or almost any other celestial object. The object being orbited is referred to as the natural satellite's primary.
