In the middle and dark ages it was unfathomable why someone fit and healthy one day could be paralysed the next so they attributed the damage to the 'fey' folk (Fairies), whom the afflicted person had upset somehow so they had 'stroked' him/her with a magic sword which leaves no sign of damage but does the same damage that a sword in a battle could do with a blow across the side of the head; so they named it 'Fairy-stroke' but who believes in fairies these days, Yet...
on 5th January 2003 I was working at the bottom of my garden in the Dandenongs, spraying an environmental weed 'Wandering Jew' with a herbicide when, unbeknown to me, I inadvertently sprayed a fairy that happened to be hiding in the WJ, It took umbridge at my action and stroked me with it's magical sword and I collapsed in a heap
