He invented the multimixer, which could mix 6 milkshakes at a time. He also spread McDonald restaurants all over the world until he died in 1984 of heart disease. Actually, the multimixer was invented by John Brotheridge, who worked for Castle
Ray Kroc, at 52 years old, invested his entire life savings to become the exclusive distributor of a milk shake maker called the Multimixer. (see the McDonalds link below) So, Ray Kroc did not "invent" the multimixer. Had he done so, he would not have to become the "exclusive distributor". I believe the actual inventor (s) were Earl Prince and Ted Fredenhagen. Here is a nice history of Prince Castle/Cock Robin... (see the rblandmark link below)

According to Mr. Franchise of Franchise Foundations, Ray Kroc, a multimixer salesman, visited the McDonalds brothers location in San Bernardino, California in 1954 to see why a single, small hamburger stand needed the capacity to make 40 milkshakes at a time. Kroc immediately realized the potential for franchising McDonalds. The McDonald brothers did not share his franchise vision, so Kroc was charged with franchise responsibilities. Kroc refined and standardized the business model, opening the first refined McDonalds prototype restaurant in Illinois in 1955.
According to Mr. Franchise of Franchise Foundations, the owners of McDonalds, brothers Dick and Mac McDonald, did not franchise McDonalds. Rather, it was a multimixer salesman they met in 1954, Ray Kroc, who persuaded them to let him franchise the small hamburger stand. More details can be found on the Franchise Foundations website, on the Articles I page.
In 1937, Patrick McDonald opened "The Airdrome" restaurant at the Monrovia Airport in Monrovia, California. Hamburgers were ten cents, and all-you-can-drink orange juice was five cents. In 1940 his two sons, Maurice and Richard, moved the entire building 40 miles to the corner of 14th and E Streets in San Bernardino, California. The restaurant was renamed "McDonald's". In 1948, the brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald introduced the "Speedee Service System" which established the principles of the modern fast-food restaurant. In 1954, Ray Kroc, a seller of Multimixer milkshake machines, learned that brothers Richard and Maurice (Dick and Mac) McDonald were using eight of his high-tech Multimixers in their San Bernardino, California, restaurant. His curiosity was piqued, and he went to San Bernardino to take a look at the McDonalds' restaurant. The world's first McDonald's restaurant. The McDonald Brothers had been in the restaurant business since 1937. In 1948, they closed down a successful carhop drive-in to establish the streamlined operation Ray Kroc saw in 1954. The menu was simple: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, french fries, shakes, soft drinks, and apple pie. The carhops were eliminated to make McDonald's a self-serve operation. Mac and Dick McDonald had taken great care in setting up their kitchen like an assembly line, to ensure maximum efficiency.
