Chemical Change: A chemical change is a reaction that transforms (changes) a substance into a new substance or substances with different properties.

Physical Change: No new substances are made. It is fairly easy to reverse this kind of change. An example would be dissolving salt in water. The change can be reversed simply by evaporating the water.

Physical changes do not change the makeup nor the properties of a substance, Cut a large piece of paper, and it is still paper.

Chemical changes like burning paper --- you can't write on it anymore. Properties have changed because the makeup has changed.
