The protagonist is the main character, or 'hero.' However, they do not nessecarily have to be good to be a protagonist. If this is the case, they're often referred to as an 'antihero.'

The protagonist is most likely to be the main character. They take the most action in the story and the central action. He/She is the one who solves the conflict. The antagonist can be a person, or thing. Antagonists are the ones who create the conflict. They are like "the bad guys".

For example:

Robby the red cat went out to have a picnic with his friend Mimi. They started to eat but then the weather turned to rain. Robby was upset until he had an idea. Why not have a picnic inside? So Mimi and Robby ate their picnic inside.

Protagonist- Robby

Antagonist- the rain

The difference between a protogonist and an anagonist?

A protagonist is the main character of a story. An antagonist is the oppositionist to the protagonist. Contrary to popular belief, a protagonist doesn't necessarily mean they are a "good guy" or the like, and an antagonist doesn't mean they are a "bad guy". An explanation of this could be that plenty of literature centers a protagonist who could be considered "evil".
