The SBS warning light indicates a fault with your airbag sensors system.
The SQUIB, or pyrotechnic inflator.
This is an educated guess... A squib is a firework (aka pyrotechnic) and most airbag designs are inflated by pyrotechnic means. Therefore I believe the squib is the charge that triggers airbag inflation.
First make sure there is a good fuse for the airbag light in the fuse box. If there is not a good fuse for the airbag light in the fuse box, then the airbag warning light will show on the dashboard. If that is not your problem, you can have a mechanic read the code which will cost you at least $50, and will give an indication what the problem is. If that is not your problem, you can have the mechanic look at your air bag inflator and they can tell you if there is something wrong with the system.
the drivers airbag inflator module is mounted in the center of the steering wheel, and the passenger side airbag inflator module is mounted above the glove box under the SRS letters on the dash Look under the kick panel passenger side for the modual. Has a bracket over it. edit: i believe he was asking about air bag diagnostic module, because im looking for it and can't find it as well. there is only one and receives signal from crash sensors and sends it to driver and passenger airbag modules.
The airbag system has a malfunction and will not deploy if needed as long as the airbag symbol stays on.
press shift to use the inflator
The light come on when the system detects a problem and sets a trouble code. You should have it diagnosed by a trained technician. The airbag system is not for do it yourselfers.
problem with the airbag system have it checked by a qualified technician
The airbag light can be reset by connecting an ODBII reader. However the light is on because of a problem with the airbag system. The system needs to be checked to insure that the airbag works properly.
When dealing with any part of the airbag system my recommendation is to take the vehicle to the dealership where a train technician can install the new airbag and reset the system. This way if you install the new airbag and the system is not reset. It may malfunction in the event of a collision or it may charge the new airbag and blowup when connected.
There are pages of codes for the airbag system. You need to have it checked for codes by a qualified mechanic as airbag systems are not a do it yourself system.
i dunno the innerworkings, of it all, but pyrotechnic is an adjective...so here's an example::pyrotechnic explosions are fascinating, especially on the 4th of July.
