The act of resisting; opposition, passive or active., The quality of not yielding to force or external pressure; that power of a body which acts in opposition to the impulse or pressure of another, or which prevents the effect of another power; as, the resistance of the air to a body passing through it; the resistance of a target to projectiles., A means or method of resisting; that which resists., A certain hindrance or opposition to the passage of an electrical current or discharge offered by conducting bodies. It bears an inverse relation to the conductivity, -- good conductors having a small resistance, while poor conductors or insulators have a very high resistance. The unit of resistance is the ohm.

Resistance is the opposition to flow or movement.

Resistance in a a mechanical system could be friction, wind, gravity.

Resistance in an electrical circuit is the limiting or opposition to current flow. It is measured in Ohms.

Ohms law is:

V=I/R

V=Voltage (volts)

I=Current (amps)

R=Resistance (Ohms) Resistance in an AC circuit is called Impedance (Z)

Resistance is the process in which the electrons are impeded within the traveling course through the cable's conductor. Resistance is measured in Ohms, and is directly proportional to the watts pushing through.

If you wanted to lower your voltage, you would increase your resistance, which also increases the power in the line as well. also, if you wanted to raise the voltages, you would decrease the resistance in the cable.

(R=V/I)

Resistance= voltage/current
resistance is nothing but which opposes the flow of electrons or current

The electrical resistance of an object is a measure of its opposition to the passage of a steady electric current. An object of uniform cross section will have a resistance proportional to its length and inversely proportional to its cross-sectional area, and proportional to the resistivity of the material. The resistance of a resistive object determines the amount of current through the object for a given potential difference across the object, in accordance with Ohm's law: where I = V/R : R is the resistance of the object, measured in ohms, equivalent to J·s/C2 : V is the potential difference across the object, measured in volts : I is the current through the object, measured in amperes

What does diode mean in a science?

A diode is an electronic component with the characteristic that its resistance is not constant, but depends on the magnitude of the current through it. An ideal diode has zero resistance to current in one direction, and infinite resistance to current in the reverse direction.
