What is a safety in football?

A safety is when the ball carrier is tackled in his own end

zone. The defensive team is awarded 2 points, and the the offense

then free kicks from their own 20-yard line, so the team who just

received 2 points also gets the ball back after the free kick.

It's also a safety when offensive holding is called on a player

while he is in his end zone.
