There is no specific number of books. It's called a chronicle because the books take place in chronological order. Unlike a series which can take place in any order, with multiple point of views, and prequels and such.
A chronicle typically consists of multiple books, with each book focusing on a different period or theme within the overall chronicle's story. The number of books in a chronicle can vary widely depending on the author's design and the scope of the historical events being covered.
Most of the time it is chronicles.

There are many books by Chris D'Lacy. You can see them all at his website Icefire. My favourite books are the series the Last Dragon Chronicle's. The series is made up by seven books. The Fire Within, Icefire, Fire Star, The Fire Eternal, Dark Fire, Flame World and Unknown (Chris is still writing it).
